Price is too high for Steelers to keep big playmaker Hilton

The Steelers would love to keep Hilton but the cornerback can get a big payday elsewhere

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It’s part of a 93.7 The Fan series of pros and cons for Steelers free agents to be.

DB-Mike Hilton

BIO-since signing with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi, Hilton has done nothing but prove people wrong.  Starting with his first year, the 5’9”, 184 pound Hilton has found a way to make impact plays.  Playing limited snaps as a rookie, Hilton finished with 10 tackles for loss, four sacks, eight QB hits, two interceptions and a forced fumble.  Those numbers would continue over his four years with the team-20 starts, but 237 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 7 interceptions, 30 tackles for loss, 5 fumble recoveries and 3 forced fumbles.  Hilton basically did everything but score a touchdown and he was three yards away from doing that against Indianapolis in 2020.

FOR-Every defense needs play makers.  Hilton is not only a playmaker but is versatile and plays a nickel back position that grows in importance every year.  He’s a team player and someone Mike Tomlin has great affection for.

AGAINST-the main reason against has nothing to do with his ability to play, but his cost.  Likely this is Hilton’s opportunity for a big pay-day and unlikely that could come from the Steelers.

PREDICTION-Hilton will get a better financial offer somewhere else
