There have been conflicting reports all day on the extent of T.J. Watt’s injury.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport now confirms it is a pectoral injury and is getting an MRI Monday.
Rapoport adds we will likely not know the extent of the injury until Tuesday at the earliest.
Watt will get a second opinion.
According to Rapoport, Watt could get surgery that would “knock him out until at least the end of the season.”
Another possibility and one that the Steelers are hopeful for, is rehab and then come back “in a couple of weeks.”
“There is a possibility that he does not need surgery immediately, which would be great, that would be it’s more of a pec strain than a full tear,” added Rapoport.
CBS Sports NFL Insider Jonathan Jones said there is “optimism” that Watt did not have a full pec tear and “will be able to return after sitting for a month or so.”
But Rapoport says surgery is still an option and that along with rehab are both on the table currently.
With Watt and the Steelers weighing options, don’t expect to see any definite news on Watt until at least Tuesday.
Watt declined to talk to the media on Monday morning, but several Steelers reporters said Watt seemed “chipper” and was in good spirits.
So, read into that what you will.
