Jason Mackey of the Post-Gazette reports the 31-year-old, two-time Gold Glover is looking for a bounce back after a “down year with Detroit.”

Barnhart spent the first eight seasons of his career in Cincinnati, debuting in 2014 with the Reds.

He was drafted by the Reds in 10th round of the 2009 MLB Draft.

Barnhart has a career .245 batting average with .320 OBP and slugged .360. He has 623 career hits and 52 career home runs.

He was traded to the Tigers in the 2021 offseason for infielder Nick Quintana.

Last season with Detroit, Barnhart batted .221 going 62-for-281 with one home run and 74 strike outs.

An unrestricted free agent, Barnhart made 7.75 million last season in Detroit.

In other news, former Pirates pitcher Jose Quintana has signed a two-year $26 million deal with the New York Mets

Quintana went 6-7 last year between the Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals with a 2.93 ERA.

He agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with Pittsburgh before last season and was traded before the deadline to the Cardinals with pitcher Chris Stratton for pitcher Johan Oviedo and minor league infielder Malcom Nunez.
