According to a report, cornerback Darius Slay is out in Pittsburgh.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Steelers and Slay have “mutually agreed to part ways.”
Slay was inactive for the team’s last game this past Sunday at Acrisure Stadium, even thought he was healthy.
During his weekly news conference, Head Coach Mike Tomlin was asked about Slay not playing.
He said it was “less about Slay and more about getting an opportunity to see Asante Samuel.”
Samuel was elevated from the Steelers practice squad on Saturday before the Bills game.
The 23-year-old Slay signed a $10 million, one-year deal with the Steelers during free agency, but hasn’t lived up to the price tag.
Slay, who won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles last year, has 36 tackles this season, one for a loss, along with one fumble recovery and three passes defended.
Slay mentioned on social media this weekend that he doesn’t drink alcohol, but that is “might change this offseason”, indicating the difficult time he’s had in Pittsburgh.
ESPN’s Schefter reports that Slay “is interested in continuing to play” and could sign with another team if approached.
