FOXBOROUGH, MA (93.7 The Fan) – A couple of milestones in the first half for Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers as he climbs in two of the biggest quarterback categories during the game at New England.
Rodgers passed Philip Rivers (63,440 yards) on the NFL all-time passing yards list with the 21-yard, third-down completion to Jonnu Smith late in the first quarter. Next up, Ben Roethlisberger for 5th place (64,088)
With the touchdown pass to DK Metcalf, Rodgers passes Brett Favre (508) for fourth most in NFL history. Peyton Manning is third with 539.
“It means I played a long time,” Rodgers said postgame. “I grew up and Niners quarterbacks were my favorite and then I got to play with Brett. I was drafted the year after Phil Rivers. Had a friendship through the game with him for years. Loved watching Phil play. His mannerisms, his lack of swearing, trash talk. Phil was one guy I really enjoyed watching on tape. The only guy to get out of the Pro Bowl with the excuse that he had his eighth or ninth kid. Good to be mentioned with those guys.”
He is within range of getting to sixth place on the all-time completions list, starting the game 31 behind Roethlisberger. He also started the game 50 behind Dan Marino for seventh place on the all-time pass attempts list.
