Roethlisberger to get paid league minimum, rest in signing bonus

Big Ben took a pay cut on Thursday

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Ben Roethlisberger was true to his word with 93.7 the Fan Steelers Insider and The Athletic’s Ed Bouchette. He took a pay cut that totalled five million dollars.

According to the NFL Network, Roethlisberger will get a veteran minimum salary of $1.075 million in 2021 with a $12.925 million dollar signing bonus.  That money will be spread out through four more seasons.  So essentially, Roethlisberger has a new five-year contract.

This move will save the Steelers 15 million dollars for this year.  That gets the team cap compliant.  Roethlisberger said he wanted to help out and he has.

There is much more work to be done, for example the Steelers have 19 free agents to sign by March 17, then draft picks and then talks of long-term contracts with TJ Watt and Minkah Fitzpatrick, if not others.
