Spillane gets start with Bush scheduled for surgery Wednesday

Some players will be limited, other should be good to go for practice on Wednesday

With linebacker Devin Bush expected to have surgery on his torn ACL Wednesday, Robert Spillane has been officially named the next man.

“We’ve got a great deal of confidence in Robert, we’ll continue to largely go with him in replacement of Devin, we will through game planning look at all our options in terms of dividing the labor up but Robert will be the primary man responsible for replacing Devin and we’re excited about watching him play and playing to the standards of our expectations,” said Coach Mike Tomlin during his weekly press conference.

Tomlin says they added Spillane as a free agent a few seasons ago because of the depth is provided to the roster.

“He’s continually gotten better and continually worked to carve out a role for himself,” said Tomlin.

On Sunday, Spillane was able to transition well into the defense recording six tackles, one more than Bush.

Tomlin also said full back Derek Watt was once again dealing with hamstring issues making his availability questionable this week in practice.

The same thing goes for cornerback Mike Hilton, who is dealing with a shoulder injury. Tomlin expects him to be limited at the beginning of the week.

Guard David DeCastro and wide receiver Dionate Johnson, who missed last game due to injury, are expected to return to practice on Wednesday.
