PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He is the combination of player and human you hope all athletes become. Tuesday, Steelers captain Cam Heyward wins another award befitting his demeanor.

Heyward named the Pro Football Writers of America 2022 Good Guy Award winner.  It goes to one NFL player every season who best exemplifies the qualities and style in helping pro football writers do their jobs.  He was a finalist with Washington receiver Terry McLaurin, Denver safety Justin Simmons and Cincinnati tight end C.J.
Uzomah.

For the fourth time in his career, Heyward was the Steelers choice for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2021.  The 33-year-old established the Heyward House locally in 2015 to help children in all aspects of life.  He started the Rufus and Judy Jordan Literacy Program (named after his grandparents) providing free libraries to help underserved communities in the region.  It’s rare to find a charity function in Pittsburgh that Heyward has not contributed to in some way.

“I think I try and do a good job of representing my team, my community, this organization in making sure I can give back,” Heyward said in December.

Now those who report on him are giving a little recognition back.
