The Steelers took on the New Orleans Saints in Pittsburgh on Sunday. It was the return of T.J. Watt as the Steelers tried to reverse their luck after a bye week, but had to do so without Minkah Fitzpatrick and Chris Boswell.
In the first quarter, the Steelers got the ball rolling on their second drive of the game. Kenny Pickett and Najee Harris led the charge going 57 yards in 12 plays. George Pickens finished off the drive on a jet sweep to the endzone to make it an early 7-0 lead.
The first quarter ended with a big 36-yard run from Harris that would then set up Matthew Wright to make a 33-yard field goal attempt to make it a 10-0 game less than a minuet into the second quarter.
The defense would then start to crack open a bit when the Saints evened the game by the end of the second quarter with a 44-yard field goal attempt from Will Lutz and a Juwan Johnson touchdown right before half for a 10-10 score.
It was a stalemate of a third quarter with neither team capitalizing.
The Steelers got close, but Pickett would ultimately be sacked at the New Orleans 21 and lose momentum. Wright then missed a 39-yard attempt, leaving it all up to the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter would open in favor of the Steelers. Less than two minutes in Wright would knock down a 33-yard attempt to regain a 3-point lead at 13-10. This would act as a momentum shifter for the team as they went on to dominate in the final quarter.
The next drive resulted in a big interception on a ball that tipped from Damontae Kazee, who filled in for Fitzpatrick, on his Steelers debut.
This would allow the Steelers to score again on rushing touchdown from quarterback Pickett to increase to a 20-10 lead.
After another missed field-goal attempt from Wright later in the quarter, Andy Dalton got intercepted again, this time by Levi Wallace. The interception would allow the Steelers to hold on to the ball to secure the win and improve to 3-6.
Kenny Pickett would end the day going 18/30, throwing for 199 yards, and 1 rushing TD.
Najee Harris accumulated 20 carries, rushing for a total of 99 yards.
Diontae Johnson led the receiving end, with 4 completions for 63 yards.
On defense, Robert Spillane and Levi Wallace led the team in tackles, Spillane with 7, both with 5 solo tackles, and Wallace with an interception. Alex Highsmith ended the game with 2 sacks and 5 total tackles as well.
The Steelers will be back in action next Sunday when they host the Cincinnati Bengals at 4:25 p.m. EST.
