PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It's an area where the Steelers are woefully behind other NFL teams, Wednesday the team added to their offensive coaching staff. The team going to the college ranks to name Glenn Thomas their offensive assistant coach.

Thomas was Arizona State's offensive coordinator last year and was the UNLV offensive coordinator and QB coach in 2021. He spent the previous three seasons at Baylor as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach and was Temple's QB coach and offensive coordinator for one season in 2015-16. During that time he would have been part of the staff that originally got the commitment of Kenny Pickett out of high school before he switched to Pitt.

He started his coaching career at Midwestern State in 2001 as a graduate assistant coaching wide receivers and then in 2005 was promoted to offensive coordinator. He would spent three seasons in that role and in his final season led the NCAA with 550 total yards per game and 317 rushing yards per game.

His only coaching experience in the NFL was with the Atlanta Falcons from 2008-14. He would start as an offensive assistant and then quarterbacks coach with Matt Ryan. Thomas also worked with the Ravens wide receivers and quarterbacks during the offseason while still coaching Midwestern State in 2002-03 and again in 2005.

Herm Edwards said when hiring Thomas to ASU-"He is known around football circles for his expertise in quarterback play, with quarterback mechanics and getting them to play at their optimum level.  His work with Matt Ryan in Atlanta speaks for itself as Matt enjoyed the best years of his career under Glenn. Also, he's worked with young quarterbacks in college and has made them highly successful.

Former Ravens head coach Brian Billick said of Thomas via thesundevils.com-"Glenn is known as one of the truly bright young coaches in the game of football today."
