The Steelers may be soon be giving Ben Roethlisberger some more protection. The team hosted five-time Pro Bowl guard Trai Turner for a visit Friday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Los Angeles Chargers released Turner March 12, right at the start of free agency. They acquired from the Carolina Panthers last year in exchange for Russell Okung.
Turner, 28, started nine games at right guard last season. He played 13 games in both 2018 and 2019.
With Maurkice Pouncey retired and Alejandro Villanueva signing with the Ravens, the Steelers have gaping holes on their offensive line. They drafted two offensive lineman, Kendrick Green and Dan Moore, in the third and fourth rounds, respectively.
If healthy, Turner would solidly the Steelers' pass and run blocking inside, hopefully creating plenty of holes for Najee Harris — and giving Roethlisberger lots of time to throw to his cadre of weapons.
