The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly declined the fifth-year option for safety Terrell Edmunds.

The NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Edmunds now becomes a free agent after this season unless a new contract is signed.

Edmunds would've made $6.7 million in 2022, if the Steelers picked up that fifth-year option. He'll make 1.9 million this year with a $1.4 million signing bonus.

This comes just moments before it was announced his brother, linebacker Tremaine's fifth-year option was picked up by the Buffalo Bills.

Terrell was the Steelers first round draft pick in 2018 and has started almost every game since.

In 47 total games, Edmunds has three interceptions and 251 total tackles in in three years in Pittsburgh.

Declining Edmunds contract means the Steelers will need to find another safety other than Minkah Fitzpatrick

Right now, the Steelers have Antoine Brooks, a 6th rounder last year, John Battle, who was an undrafted free agent and two undrafted rookies signed on Saturday after the draft Penn State's Lamont Wade and Florida Donovan Steiner.

While Edmunds has been a serviceable safety, they could simply be making cap room with several big contracts coming up for Pittsburgh.

T.J. Watt could demand $30 million a year and a fellow safety Minkah Fitzpatrick will need to get done.
