Of all the days to release him, The Steelers have let linebacker Vince Williams go, on 3/16 day.

Fans of professional wrestling remember 3:16 as one of the catch phrases of Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Williams has my favorite entrance in training camp history, rolling up in a pickup truck like Stone Cold would, with an Austin-style vest walking up the ramp with his championship belt and a purpose!

While the decision to let him go was not an easy one (Mike Tomlin as a big fan of Williams), it is a smart move financial.

Cutting Williams will have the Steelers $4 million in salary but a little over $3 million still goes against the 2021 cap.

Word of Williams possibly getting cut came out last night when he cryptically tweeted “I can hear the streets calling.”

The 31-year-old Williams had 70 total tackles and 3 sacks last year at interior linebacker.

Over his eight-year career in Pittsburgh, Williams has 479 total tackles, 20 sacks and 50 tackles for a loss.

Fellow linebacker Robert Spillane is a restricted free agent and will likely be the player to take Williams’ spot on the roster.

Also, who could forget this moment.
