Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers downplayed facing his old team leading up to Sunday.
But, the 41-year-old couldn’t help himself after the game.
He was seen putting his hand up to his ear while walking off the field, taking in the boo from the New York Jet faithful.
“It was nice to win,” Rodgers said after the game. “Especially hearing some of the cat calls out there and the boo birds. I'm not sensitive about that. I expected that. I kind of like that.”
“There were probably people in the organization that didn't think I could play anymore, so it was nice to remind those people I still can.”
The New York Post’s backpage delighted Steelers fans still reveling in the win.
“So, now he can play!” was in big type on the page with a photo of a happy Rodgers.
It was also reassuring the Steelers made the right move with the headline at the top of the page, “Russ watch already on” after Russell Wilson struggled in the Giants’ opening loss.
Rodgers completed 22 of 30 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns with no turnovers and a 136.7 rating. It was the 13th time in his career he threw for four TDs and no picks in a game.
There were question marks surrounding Rodgers, coming off two less-than-great seasons with the Jets, but make no mistake, if he isn’t the Steelers quarterback on Sunday, Pittsburgh does not win that game.
