Tomlin names Trubisky starter before press conference audio dies

Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin has made it official, Mitch Trubisky will be the starting quarterback for the first regular season game of the year.

It's a big one. The Steelers will travel to Cincinnati to take on the AFC Champion Bengals.

Tomlin was able to talk about the quarterbacks before the feed from his press conference dropped out just a few minutes into the press conference.

"Mitch Trubisky is our starting quarterback and our captain, we're really comfortable with what Mitch has shown us," Tomlin said. "We didn't know much about Mitch when we signed him, it's all been a get to know and it's been a pleasant one."

Tomlin also addressed the backup quarterbacks confirming that due to a clerical error Kenny Pickett is the second-team quarterback and Mason Rudolph is now the third-team QB after the opposite was listed on the depth chart Monday.

"The cut and paste component was the cut and paste component," said Tomlin. "I know you were hoping for a more colorful explanation, but it is what is it. That's what happened."

It seems bizarre that the Steelers waiting almost a day to correct the error, leaving everyone outside of the Steelers facility to believe their first-round draft pick was the third-team quarterback.

Tomlin said that Pickett showed his abilities in the preseason games.

"I'm really pleased with the growth and development of Kenny. That's why he's listed as QB2," said Tomlin. "He's comfortable in those shoes. He's worn them before. He performed extremely well. His mobility is a major component of his status and what it brings to us."

He also praised Mason Rudolph's professionalism, and said they have three capable quarterbacks on the roster.

But Tomlin also noted that only two quarterbacks will dress for Sunday's game, meaning Rudolph won't get a helmet after serving as Ben Roethlisberger's backup last season.

Tomlin started to talk about the Cincinnati Bengals, but that is when the feed started to go out and then the audio was completely lost for the duration of his press conference.
