PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Mike Tomlin is going to have none of the carryover this year with what happened between Myles Garrett and Mason Rudolph, when Garrett ripped off Rudolph’s helmet and hit the Steelers QB in the head, giving him a concussion.
“There is a lot on the table in reference to this game, in terms of stakes,” Tomlin said. “They are a 4-1 team. We are trying to remain undefeated.”
“We are not looking for that low-hanging fruit or that reality TV storylines. This is a big game in 2020.”
Tomlin praised the work Garrett is doing on the field, tops in the AFC with six sacks this year, saying he’s been moving around to make it difficult for offenses.
“We know about his freakish talent,” Tomlin said. “But he has play to match here in 2020. He’s a defensive player of the year-like candidate. He’s a game-changer.”
Tomlin said Garrett not a one-man gang as the Browns lead the league in turnovers. The Steelers head coach also praised Cleveland’s offense this year, fourth in the league averaging 31.2 points a game.
“They have some wide outs that catch your attention in Odell and Landry and rightfully so, but the strength of their pack is in the pack,” Tomlin said. “They have quality depth throughout all position groups.”
Tomlin said Cleveland has a quality running game no matter who is rushing the ball, currently tops in the NFL at 188 yards per game and some of that is because of an improved offensive line.
So this isn’t your younger brother’s Browns, they have as many wins as the Steelers and it will a challenge for Tomlin to get his 22nd win in 27 chances against Cleveland.
“This week we are faced with a significant challenge, one that we are excited about because we love being in the kitchen,” Tomlin said. “AFC North ball is in the kitchen. It’s hot in the north.”
I believe that means it should be a good game Sunday.
