Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin was asked about his future during his postgame press conference after losing a Wild Card game to the Buffalo Bills.
“Mike you have a year left on your contract,” ESPN’s Steelers reporter Brooke Pryor began to ask when Tomlin abruptly walked off.
93.7 The Fan’s Jeff Hathhorn, who was in Buffalo for the game, said it’s possible Tomlin doesn’t know what his future holds.
“That’s maybe why he didn’t want to get one think or another,” Hathhorn said on The Fan Morning Show.
Players like Cam Heyward and Mason Rudolph didn’t shy away from questions about their future.
Heyward, along with Patrick Peterson and Broderick Jones expressed their support for Tomlin after the game with Heyward saying he doesn’t want to play for anyone else.
It was a very uncharacteristic reaction from Tomlin, but it was after another playoff loss.
The Steelers haven’t won a game in the postseason since 2016, that’s the longest drought for Pittsburgh since 1970.
But, in 17 seasons, Tomlin has never had a losing season. That’s something that a lot of people hold in high regard.
But, is that enough? The Steelers will not get rid of Tomlin. He has a year left on his contract.
As 93.7 The Fan’s Jeff Hathhorn points out, Tomlin could’ve made the situation a lot easier on himself if he would’ve just said something along the lines of “I’ll answer that later.”
There has been local and national speculation and rumors about Tomlin's future in Pittsburgh and his reaction didn't help quell that.
