Martavis Bryant’s suspension is finally over, and there is plenty of interest among NFL teams to at least see what he has left in the tank. Tuesday afternoon, Bryant returned to the NFL signing to join the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad.
Bryant last played an NFL game Nov. 11, 2018, then a member of the Raiders. He was a promising wideout early on with the Steelers, but multiple violations of the league’s substance abuse policy ultimately landed him an indefinite suspension in 2018.
He was officially reinstated by the league Saturday, and immediately there were reports that teams were interested. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones confirmed Monday on K&C Masterpiece that Dallas will be working out Bryant.
“He’ll be in this afternoon and we’ll look at him. He’s been out of the league, he played in the (XFL) … He’s a guy who got caught up, obviously, in his suspension. But he’s a guy that is a big, strong, fast receiver that we’ll certainly take a look at.”
Bryant, 31, has been a productive NFL receiver when available, though it’s obviously fair to wonder how effective he’ll be after being out of the league for half a decade. In 2017, his last full NFL season, he caught 50 of 84 targets for 603 yards with three touchdowns across across 15 games.
