PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – A player who once rushed for 142 yards at the Patriots among the roster cuts on Tuesday. NFL teams required to get down to 53 players.

Veteran offensive lineman BJ Finney was attempting a comeback with the Steelers.  He appeared to be their top back-up guard and emergency center this camp.  Finney released along with free agent signee Rashaad Coward from the Bears.  Coward often was the top fill-in for Kevin Dotson during camp.  Offensive linemen Chaz Green out.  At one-point the emergency center, 6’7” John Leglue also released.

Quarterback Josh Dobbs placed on Reserve/Injured List following getting hurt in the final preseason game on Friday.

“They all are tough because we’ve been working with this group of men since the spring,” said Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.  “We respected their preparedness.  What they’ve put into it.”

A fifth round pick in 2018, Samuels started eight games in his Steelers career totaling 459 yards rushing and 550 receiving.  The career highlight the 172 total yards in a win at New England in 2018.

The two players battling to be the starting slot corner now both released.  First it was last year’s draft pick Antoine Brooks, now veteran Arthur Maulet.  That almost assuredly means Cam Sutton moves to the inside.

This years’ sixth round pick, outside linebacker Quincy Roche, released.  Same with linebackers Jamar Watson and veteran Cassius Marsh.

Pine-Richland grad, tight end Kevin Rader made it into one game in 2020 and had three tackles on special teams.  The undrafted 26-year-old is one of many candidates for the practice squad.

Receivers Rico Bussey and Cody White, who showed flashes during the preseason were released.  Terrell Edmunds brother, Trey, released as he moved from running back to the back-up fullback.

Undrafted corner Mark Gilbert from Duke had some moments in practice, but let go today along with rookie safety Donovan Stiner.

The news came out yesterday about the release of veteran punter Jordan Berry and long snapper Kam Canaday.

Teams can start signing players to practice squads starting at 4p on Wednesday.
