PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) — The Steelers have started their 2020 season 3-0, and while those battles have been hard-fought, it's hardly the only fight that's weighing on the players' minds.
Vince Williams is one example of that.
Off the field, Williams is also spearheading a pandemic-driven problem in the community: a dearth of school supplies.
The linebacker is working to bring laptops to students without access since there's been an increase in remote learning for the 2020 school year.
While the need was exacerbated by the coronavirus, the problem was already pre-existing.
Many students in southwest Pennsylvania faced duress from their lack of school supplies even before the pandemic arrived.
And the near omnipresence of COVID has made matters worse.
Some students have had difficulties even obtaining basic school supplies, much less laptops for digital schooling.
But Williams has joined up with The Education Partnership to supply over 1,000 students with laptops and other school supplies.
The partnership was announced by the Steelers and is looking to help supply those students with the basics now that the demands have soared because of COVID-19.
The full story can be found on the Pittsburgh Steelers website.
