The Steelers sent their entire top brass to Liberty College on Tuesday with Head Coach Mike Tomlin and General Manager among those to watch quarterback Malik Willis.

Whaley adds that he still doesn’t believe Willis is ready to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. He has had issues with decision-making with a high interception rate and a relatively low completion percentage. He has also struggled with accuracy.

While Willis had an impressive Pro Day on Tuesday, Whaley adds that he struggles with a pro day being an accurate representation of who that players currently is since they have weeks to work on scripted drills.

“What is he going to revert back to when it’s game time, when those defensive guys are coming at you and there’s a blitz,” said Whaley. “Do you go back to what you know and what you to Liberty or can you still hold on to those mechanics that you were taught.”

Whaley used Tim Tebow’s struggles in the NFL as an example.

“Remember how many times Tim Tebow tried to change his throwing motion, but when he got in the game and it was crunch time, he went back to the same throwing motion,” said Whaley.
