PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It’s one of the last pieces that hadn’t been addressed this offseason. Wednesday the Steelers added that veteran depth piece to the outside linebacker room.
Markus Golden signs a one-year deal with the Steelers giving them some experience behind TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith. The 32-year-old Golden is coming off his worst full season in his career in terms of sacks. Starting 14 games and playing in all 17 with the Cardinals with just 2.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss. The 6’3”, 260-pounder finished with 48 overall tackles, which is third-best in his career.
In 2021, Golden led the Cardinals with 11 sacks and 10 tackles for loss starting only five of the 16 games that season. He also forced four fumbles, recovered two of them, finished with a pass defended and 48 tackles.
The 32-year-old was the Cardinals second-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Missouri, making his first career start against the Steelers on October 18th of that year. He’s played in 111 career NFL games (68 starts), 88 of those with the Cardinals and the others with the Giants in 2019 and 2020. He started his career at a junior college before transferring to Missouri piling up 33 tackles for loss and 16.5 sacks in his final two seasons with the Tigers.
Golden could join the team for the third voluntary workout Thursday morning on the South Side.
