Tomlin: Wilson will be a full participant, run with 2nd team to start

Russell Wilson is scheduled to be a full participant on Wednesday for the first time this season.

Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin made the announcement during his weekly news conference on Tuesday.

“He’s at the point of health where he can work on a Wednesday without restrictions,” said Tomlin.

Wilson will get reps with the second team so Justin Fields’ work with the first team is not disrupted.

Tomlin added that they are in a “different place” with Wilson this week as he continues to recover from a calf injury that occurred at the beginning of training camp and flared up before the start of the season

Fields has started every game for Pittsburgh this season, winning the first three games and dropping the last two.

Fields has continued to show improvement through the first four games and regressed a little in Sunday night’s loss to Dallas.

Tomlin said that after Wilson practices, we’ll see where they go from there.

“First we’ll see if he’s able to obviously pull it off and get through the session and if he does, what does the quality of that work look like,” said Tomlin.

When asked if they are planning on Fields starting again against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, Tomlin continued to kick the can down the road and said they have to wait and see how Wilson responds in practice.

So, we’ll have to wait, at least, a few more days to learn about the starting QB.
