WR Quez Watkins first casualty of Steelers cut day

Veteran wide receiver Quez Watkins is one of the many cuts the Steelers will make on Tuesday as they get their roster down to 53 men.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports the 26-year-old that signed a one-year deal in April is one of the cut day casualties.

The move is a bit of a surprise given the lack of depth the Steelers have at wide receiver.

Watkins struggled with fielding punts this preseason, including a muffed punt against the Houston Texans.

“He made Gunnar Olszewski look like Devin Hester,” said PM Team co-host Andrew Fillipponi.

Watkins came into training camp with a lot of promise. He was the Philadelphia Eagles second-leading receiver in 2021, a playoff team.

Watkins, entering his fifth year, has played all of his 49 games (25 starts) in the NFL with the Eagles.

He has 98 career catches for 1,249 yards, six touchdowns and an average of 12.7 yards-per-catch.
