PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He’s not one of the veteran free agents still available. He’s not an impact receiver from another NFL team, but DJ Powell is an all-conference receiver from Duquesne and received an invitation to compete at Steelers rookie camp this weekend.
The 6’3”, 192-pound Florida native was First Team All-NEC and sixth in FCS in yards per reception (20.9). Overall, he had multiple catches in every game but one finishing with 713 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. Before coming to the Dukes, Powell spent four seasons at Bethune Cookman and grew up in a family where his father, Brian, played college football and mother, Latarsha, ran track in college.
While not a teammate in college, the Steelers long-snapper is Duquesne Hall of Famer Christian Kuntz.
