PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – They aren’t the first brother/sister combination to potentially to play in the NBA and WNBA, but TJ and now Megan McConnell could join a very exclusive list. The Phoenix Mercury signed Megan on Tuesday after she was invited to training camp as an undrafted free agent.
Just like her brother with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2015, Megan had to earn an opportunity in training camp. Initially she wasn’t on the roster, but Tuesday the Mercury inked the former Duquesne star (third player in school history to sign a WNBA contract).
There is a chance for some history. It is believed the McConnell’s, from Chartiers Valley High School, would be the first siblings to play on the same night, if Megan were to play Thursday as Phoenix hosts Golden State and TJ in Game 1 of the NBA Finals with Indiana at Oklahoma City.
Megan McConnell was named the 2024-25 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year along with earning First Team All-Conference. She finished her career as the Dukes second all-time leading scorer (1,795 points) and rebounder (1,079) and the all-time leader in triple-doubles (4), steals (370) and assists (660).
