PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Coming off the PGA Championship, no surprise Scottie Scheffler is the favorite for the next major, the US Open at Oakmont Country Club. A look at those who could win the 10th US Open in Pittsburgh.

Scottie Scheffler
·       Even after a couple of bobbles during the final round Sunday, Scheffler stepped on the gas to win his first PGA Championship at Quail Hollow and third major. At age 28, he already has 15 wins, two this season and 7 top 10 finishes in 2025. Scheffler was the PGA Player of the Year winning seven tournaments in 2024 and has made over $81 million in his career.

Rory McIlroy
·       Struggling for much of the PGA Championship, he’s the only healthy golfer on tour who has won the career grand slam by getting the Masters in April. He has 29 career wins including three this year. His putting has been outstanding this year, 8th overall, third in putting average on the PGA Tour. If there is one question, while he has the length, it’s the driving accuracy.

Bryson DeChambeau
·       He is the closest thing to golf’s bad boy. The fans that love him, adore him with his ability to hit the ball longer than anyone. He joined the controversial LIV Tour and leads that group averaging 333 yards per drive. Along with that distance he is one of the best scramblers in the game and that could really help at Oakmont. Plus, he finished fifth at the Masters and second at the PGA Championship.

Jon Rahm
·       Also a member of the LIV Tour, Rahm was tied for the lead on Sunday before he couldn’t finish on the green and Scheffler pulled away. Rahm won the 2023 Masters and 2021 US Open, shooting a final round 67 to win the American championship at Torrey Pines. Rahm won twice on the LIV Tour last year.

Xander Schauffele
·       The 31-year-old had two wins last year and both were majors, the PGA Championship and The Open Championship. He also won gold at the Olympics in 2020. While continuing to make cuts, Schauffele only has one top 10 finish this year and is 55th in the FedEx standings. However, his iron play is among the best in the game which always gives him a chance.

Ludvig Aberg
·       A disappointing performance at the PGA Championship missing the cut, but Aberg is one of the young stars of golf. The 25-year-old won the Genesis Invitational this year. He averages 303 yards off the tie, 14th best on the PGA Tour and is second-best on tour with his short irons. Being erratic off the tee at times and 143 in overall putting has held him back.

Collin Morikawa
·       Being one of the straightest hitters on the PGA Tour is an asset every week, but really could be at Oakmont Country Club. If the conditions are firm and fast, it plays right into Morikawa’s game. He’s a two-time major champion (2020 PGA Championship, 2021 Open Championship), but hasn’t won since 2023. His putting has been spotty and wet courses are not his friend.

There will be the other names Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Brooks Koepka, Viktor Hovland, Tommy Fleetwood, Tony Finau and more. Sepp Straka, Brian Harman and Russell Henley have won this year. We’ll see if someone gets hot over the next two weeks-this week at Colonial and next at the Memorial are good tests. We’ll leave you with one name you may not have heard of.

Wild Card

Corey Conners
·       The Canadian has never won a major, but has been in the mix for the biggest tournaments of the season. Conners finished third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, sixth at The Players Championship, eighth at the Masters and 19th at the PGA Championship. He’s 11th in driving accuracy while still top 50 in driving distance. It’s all about putting, in triple digits in most putting categories.
