While backstage in the Forum Club inside the Kia Forum in Los Angeles during this year's KROQ Acoustic Christmas, host Kevan Kenney and The Black Keys got to talking about the band's 20-year anniversary as well as some of the artists they find themselves listening to these days.

“We’re grateful to still be doing it. When we come to places like the Forum, I always remember the first time we came to L.A. and we played this little club called The Garage and about 20 people were there. So, it’s good to come back and play the sold-out Forum. It’s kind of amazing. It never gets old,” says drummer Patrick Carney.

“You’ve got to pay your dues before you pay your rent,” Carney adds. “The older we get the more we appreciate what we have,” guitarist Dan Auerbach agrees.

Over their 20-year span, the band has been a part of the Almost Acoustic festivities a number of times, their first appearance happening in 2010, where Patrick and Dan vividly remember meeting actor and TV personality Drew Barrymore backstage. "I think it was her," admits Carney, with Kevan speculating it was just some woman walking around. "Yeah, we both met her -- she told us she was Drew Barrymore," Auerbach confirms. "We believed her."

Finally, regarding music currently resonating with each of them, "I'm finding new stuff every day," says Carney; with both offering up examples like Amyl and The Sniffers, The Velveteers, and Ceramic Animal.
