After Imagine Dragons got started in 2008 with singer Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, and bassist Ben McKee, Platzman was invited to round out the group in 2011 and went on to record with the band on all of their studio releases save for their brand new offering, LOOM, which arrived this summer.

Platzman’s reasoning for bowing out after over a decade is to fully focus on his film composing career, he explained in a press release, while also thanking fans for their “unwavering support” over the years.

“After an incredible journey of over a decade, I will be departing the amazing band that is Imagine Dragons,” Platzman shared. “I wanted to share my deepest gratitude to you, the fans, for your unwavering support and sharing in the joy of music with me. Connecting with you all has truly been the highlight of this chapter. I’m excited to be able to share more soon about the projects I’ve been hard at work on over the past few months centered on my biggest passion: film scoring and composing. I promise you’ll be the first to know. Stay tuned.”
