Before In The Heights and Hamilton, there was Freestyle Love Supreme created by Thomas Kail, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Anthony Veneziale in 2004. It's now playing at the Pasadena Playhouse until August 7th. Maggie McKay talked with one of the cast members, Morgan Reilly who plays Hummingbird. She talks about freestyling, what the audience can expect and how it was performing with Lin-Manuel Miranda among other things.

The show includes rapping, boxing, music, improv and of course hip hop....oh yes and audience participation, should you choose to raise your hand. The music is also a tribute to John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" folding in music from jazz, soul, blues and hip hop. The recommended age for this show is 14 years old and above. Oh, did I mention there will be special guests popping in on stage during certain performances, so you never know who you'll see.
