LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A gunman who fatally shot a 17-year-old boy during a failed robbery attempt in the Koreatown area remained at large Wednesday.

According to police, the teen was sitting in the passenger seat of a car around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday near Vermont Avenue and Seventh Street south of MacArthur Park when a man approached him and the car's male driver and tried to rob them.

The driver of the car began to pull away, prompting the suspect to open fire, striking the 17-year-old passenger, police said.

The driver of the car came to a stop near Olympic Boulevard and Burlington Avenue in the Westlake area, where the teen was pronounced dead. He was identified Wednesday by the Los Angeles County coroner's office as Dylan Ramirez of Los Angeles.

A description of the suspect was not immediately available.
