Jackie, one of the beloved Big Bear eagles, is being cared for at a rehab facility after she was found on the ground and rescued.
Jackie was found Saturday morning near Big Bear Lake. Friends of Big Bear Valley Jenny Voisard told KNX News’ Karen Adams it’s believed Jackie might have been injured while defending her territory.
“We saw some footage. There was an encounter at the ground level with two sub-adults, so they're younger than full adults, but they were full grown and strong,” she said. “Jackie was able to defend herself from them, but it might have weakened her. We don't quite know. So we don't know the extent of her injuries or anything, if she has any. We're just waiting in the waiting room like everybody else.”
It's not clear when Jackie will return to her family, but Voisard said Shadow is doing a great job taking care of the kids, Sandy and Luna.
“Shadow is amazing,” she said. “He was like a fish machine yesterday. I don't know how many fish he brought in, but he is doing a great job.”
