A growing list of national retailers are dropping mask requirements for fully vaccinated customers.

But in California officials are telling them not so fast!

"We expect businesses in California to adhere to where the state is," says Dr. Mark Ghaly, California's health and human services secretary. He notes while the CDC says fully vaccinated people can ditch the mask in most settings, states can make their own rules.

And he says California is going to hold off on relaxing mask rules until June 15 to give businesses more time to prepare for the change and residents more time to get vaccinated.

LA County's doing the same.

"Our teams are out notifying all of the chains that made announcements nationally that they'd be relaxing their masking requirements," says Barbara Ferrer who is the county's public health director. "This is going to be pretty easy for businesses and customers, residents and visitors to understand because there is one standard for the whole state."

She says it's a matter of protecting people who have yet to be fully vaccinated.
