Although California captures more rainwater than it used to, a new report said that the state could catch a lot more.

The report by Pacific Institute said the state is failing to capture around 700 billion gallons of stormwater a year. It also showed that the greater Los Angeles area is losing the equivalent of 437 million gallons of stormwater a day.

Experts say that recycling stormwater can be a game changer.

Measure W, which is funding to increase water supply, was passed by voters in 2018. The county has spent about $280 million a year on projects to try to increase the amount of rainwater captured, but officials describe the process as slow.
