Pearl is the director and founder of the National In Choir. Every holiday season for the past 46 years, she and her volunteer vocalists have gathered together to perform carols in Skid Row, the Motion Picture Home, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, LA Mission, and so many more places.

“What's most fun is that it's a win-win,” she told Heroes host Heather Jordan. “It's one of those few things in life that, you know, the people who participate get so much out of it, the people we do it for get so much out of it, and I have not had a December off for 46 years for that reason. I can't not. It's so wonderful. It's such a great opportunity to connect with the higher part of ourselves, the part that really wants to spread joy and love, and God knows today we could use some of this.”

The songs they sing are joyful and uplifting and sometimes a little fun, like a barnyard version of “Carol the Bells!”

“It’s just very, very fun,” she said. “I mean, it brings out the kid in everyone.”

Pearl says the music often releases whatever burden the people listening may have.

“We'll get between like 18 and 50 singers at a gig, and I mean, if you have like 30 people singing love at you, all of that harmony and loveliness, It's very powerful,” she said. “It really is for everyone involved.”
