There is still a lot of unanswered questions regarding what prompted Thomas Crooks to try and assassinate former President Trump last month in Butler at the Farm Show grounds.
During an FBI teleconference, Pittsburgh agent in charge Kevin Rojek said, Crooks was apparently looking online for any event to turn into a major incident.

“And then when this event was announced, the Trump rally was announced early in July, he became hyper-focused on that specific event and looked at it as a target of opportunity,” said Rojek.
Rojek says they say “a sustained, detailed effort to plan an attack on some event, meaning he looked at any number of events or targets.”
Rojek says they can't pinpoint an exact political ideology as Crooks appeared to show leanings towards both the left and the right.
Behavioral analysis continues to show that Crooks was both very intelligent and a loner.
As for the drone Crooks flew, Rojek says it appears he was using it to get a feel for security at the event, noting it was only in the air for only about eleven minutes.
