GREENFIELD, Calif. (KNX) – A Greenfield man who impersonated an officer and pulled over a real cop was sentenced to two years in prison Tuesday.
Clemente Martinez, 27, pled no contest to felony driving under the influence and to impersonating a police officer, the Monterey County District Attorney's Office said. Martinez also admitted to five prior convictions.
Around 3:15 a.m. on March 6, Martinez put flashing red and blue lights on his car and attempted to do a traffic stop on off-duty Monterey County Sheriff Sergeant.
“The off-duty sheriff initially yielded but became suspicious when Martinez did not exit his vehicle,” the district attorney said. “When Martinez abandoned the traffic stop and attempted to drive away the off-duty sergeant realized Martinez was not operating a legitimate law enforcement vehicle and began to follow him.”
Martinez was pulled over after the Sergeant called Greenfield Police.
A field sobriety test revealed Martinez’s blood alcohol content was .10.
