Huntington Beach's firefighters were called to a neighborhood in Seabridge, where a flock of ducklings was stuck in an underground storm area.
The neighborhood has lots of ponds, and the space between the street and sidewalk is where firefighters found the baby ducks.
“The mom duck was hanging around us; it was flying around quacking, so we knew that she wanted to get her babies back,” Fire Captain Chad Dinnen told KNX News’ Emily Valdez, “So we're doing the best we could for her.”
The ducklings were originally stuck in overflow pipes from the residential area, from which they swam to a storm drain with a manhole.
Firefighters corralled the ducks and used a net to scoop them out of the manhole, while a resident recorded the whole thing.
“Oh my God, there were many more,” said the resident in the video. “You guys are literally heroes.”
The ducklings were reunited with their mom, and firefighters asked the property manager to put a net on the pipe to prevent this from happening.
