Country star Kelsea Ballerini has teamed up with Vevo Originals for their series Footnotes to share some never-before-seen details, behind-the-scenes tidbits, and more about the video for her latest hit “hole in the bottle.”

The video's director Hannah Lux Davis (who has worked with Ariana Grande and Halsey on past videos) and Kelsea take fans on a journey through the stylized video's creation, while revealing details in the scene-by-scene text dialogue.

“I wanted to emit the energy of black and white films from the early 1900s - they felt so glamorous and luxe even without color," Davis explained in a press release. "Kelsea looked so stunning in her gown in the first scenes and oozed an old Hollywood vibe which I absolutely love.”

Some of the more interesting bits we learned:

1) The painting of Kelsea’s dog, Dibs, was done by Nashville artist William Hunters.

2) Kelsea’s idea to drink wine (yes, for most of the takes she was drinking real wine) out of teacups, played perfectly into the Alice In Wonderland-esque "drunken daydream” Davis was trying to create.

3) It was shot in one day and premiered before her follow-up ballerini was released on September 11. If you look closely, the numbers on the clock add up to 11 as a subtle hint.

4) The last shot of the day, a dancing sequence, was a nod to both Britney Spears and Shania Twain.

“I was a little nervous about dancing, I’m not going to lie," Kelsea admits. "But by that point (I) felt so comfortable with Hannah and the incredible dancers, Lauren and Madison, that we all just hyped each other up and went for it.”

“Boy, that girl can move," Davis gushed about Kelsea's moves. "We had so much fun playing with choreography that amped up the video and really showed off another talent of hers."

Ballerini performed "hole in the bottle," the third single from her third studio album kelsea most recently at the 55th ACM Awards where she was also nominated for Female Artist of the Year. Take a look at even more incredible moments from the show here.

Kelsea, not one to let a pandemic slow her creative output, quickly followed up her hit album kelsea with toned-down, reimagined versions of the same songs released on September 11 under the title ballerini.
