Our former KNX Hero of the Week, Dr. Katie Nenneker is inspiring the next generation of veterinarians.
Horses, llamas, potbelly pigs - Dr. Nenn has spent these last few years taking care of our biggest lovable pets and all of our favorite farm animals.

She and her staff at the Nenn Foundation started the NENNtorship program to help students who hope to become vets one day themselves. It's free and open to young people who are inspired to make a difference.
“The mentorship program is a unique opportunity for people who are interested in being in the animal health industry, whether it's a vet or a technician or any aspect of animal health, to get hands-on experience,” she told Heroes host Heather Jordan. “We take them through a six-month course, and we go over everything. Everything from how to make a medical record to how to give injections, how you move animals around using their flight zones, and all kinds of stuff, so they get hands-on knowledge.”

Dr. Nenn also said that there's a shortage of large animal vets, so she and her team are trying to increase accessibility with learning.

“We've done a lot in the last couple of years, and it's growing steadily and in a really wonderful way where we're able to really expand what we can do and expand our impact,” she said. “ Our mission is to make it nationwide and then to have other veterinarians that are interested in developing the next generation of vets that they'll be able to kind of teach the program as well, and this is our first step in expanding.”
