Jackie, the bald eagle who had fans all over SoCal and around the world through the famous webcam set up by the group Friends of Big Bear Valley, has died.
Officials with the Ojai Raptor Center, where Jackie had been receiving care, announced her death on Monday.
“Our team is heartbroken. It has been an extraordinary privilege to care for her,” a statement by the center read.
Jackie had been in failing health for weeks after wildlife officials learned she had been involved in a fight with two younger eagles and was found to have been very sick.
“Over the past several days, her condition continued to deteriorate despite intensive treatment and the combined efforts of our veterinary team and consulting specialists,” officials with the center explained. “She remained critically ill, receiving oxygen therapy, supportive treatment, and around-the-clock monitoring in our intensive care unit.”
Jackie gave birth to a number of eaglets over the years with onlookers following the journey online. The most recent eaglets were Sandy and Luna.
She was estimated to be fourteen years old.
