Our KNX Hero of the Week, Carl Stromstedt, is fostering dogs all by himself!
The 94-year-old Navy Veteran who lives in Orange County has cared for 24 dogs that have been saved through the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue.

He gives them lots of love and attention, and readies them for their forever home. Carl says the dogs give him something to live for.
“They keep me alive,” he told Heroes host Heather Jordan. “It feels good when they get adopted. Then you found another dog for another home.”

Currently, Carl is taking care of a special dog named Ripley, who is 15 years old.
“Well, we go out in front every afternoon when it's nice out, and I take him up and down the front yard, you know, I can't take him down to the corner because he wears out,” Carl said. “But we spend half an hour, 45 minutes out there in the front, and then we lay down the grass, and I comb him, and he just loves it.”

“One of our goals as a rescue, Heather is trying to engage with the senior community of retirees that maybe aren't willing to commit to a dog for 10 years, but want the companionship of a dog around and being able to foster is such a win-win when you think about older folks that are just, you know, looking for that companionship or someone to motivate them to go for a walk,” she said. “And I wish I had a dozen Carls, honestly.”
