One day after officially declaring the warehouse fire in Boyle Heights had been knocked down, Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Jaime Moore said it looks like they'll be able to meet their goal of returning the warehouse to its operator, Lineage Logistics, by Friday.

“We're gonna have firefighters still on scene,” he told reporters. “We're gonna still be flowing some waters, and we're gonna support the recovery process to make sure that we continue to protect the community here in Boyle Heights.”

The huge fire was officially knocked down on Wednesday night, but the fire department said there could still be hot spots, including a small pile of burning material in the center of the structure.

Chief Moore also said water runoff is being strained to prevent any hazardous stuff, including rotting food, from getting into the storm drains and into the ocean.

The warehouse fire started on June 17 at the Lineage cold storage facility on South Los Palos St. and reignited once again on June 19.

L.A. Mayor Karen Bass will be issuing an executive order she says is designed to "mobilize additional resources for Boyle Heights” as the massive cleanup begins.
