WASHINGTON (1010 WINS) — Federal prosecutors filed charges against George Santos, the freshman House representative from Long Island embroiled in a bevy of scandals and investigations over lies and alleged fraud, CNN reported on Tuesday.

The outlet cited three anonymous sources claiming Santos will be called to appear at a federal court in the Eastern District of New York as soon as Wednesday.

The charges have reportedly already been filed, but not unsealed.

Multiple investigations into Santos’ alleged illegal behavior are ongoing. The nature of the charges and which investigation yielded them are not yet clear.

State, federal and even international investigative bodies are probing alleged campaign finance violations, conflict of interest law violations, theft and various forms of fraud.

The two federal bodies investigating Santos are the FBI and the Justice Department.

Santos admitted to lying about his personal background, but has denied most claims of illegal behavior.

The congressman did strike a deal with Brazilian prosecutors in which he admitted to defrauding a Rio de Janeiro store out of $1,300.

His lies came to light after he was elected to New York’s 3rd Congressional District, flipping a Democratic seat and becoming the first openly gay man to win an election as a Republican.

Beyond Santos’ legal troubles, the House Ethics Committee is also looking into his behavior from an ethical standpoint.

Democrats and some Republicans have called for Santos to resign over the torrent of lies and alleged fraud.
