The U.S. Open of Surfing competition is underway in Huntington Beach, despite dangerous surf conditions.
“I wouldn't say that it's ideal for it to be big and choppier, but it's still a lot of fun,” one surfer told KNX News’ Jon Baird.
Over the last week, lifeguards across Southern California have had to rescue many beachgoers due to the dangerous conditions in the water. Even now, forecasters are warning swimmers to stay out of the water.
The competition continues over the next few days, just as the waves continue pounding the coastline.
