The attorney representing accused UnitedHealthcare CEO shooter Luigi Mangione says his client is innocent.

LISTEN: Thomas Dickey, representing Luigi Mangione

Attorney Thomas Dickey tells KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin, “Under the law, he is 100 percent presumed innocent and that’s the way it is.”

Dickey says that “if and when (Mangione) is charged with any offense, his plea will be not guilty.”

The attorney says, especially when it’s a high-profile case, the public needs to remember everyone is presumed innocent until a conviction.

Many in the court of public opinion have already made their assumptions but Dickey says it’s important to always follow the constitution.

Dickey was also asked about the alleged manifesto that was allegedly written by Mangione.

“Well, first of all, I haven't seen that . . . there's a thing called the rule of completeness. And what that is . . . evidence that is inadmissible for a lot of is not only unreliable, but it's not allowed to come in because the law says so. And most of that is constitutionally based.”

Dickey also confirmed that he is getting a large volume of calls from people offering to pay for Mangione’s legal bills.

There's some truth to that, that's a new thing to me,” said Dickey I'm still looking into .
. .  the ethics and just the propriety of all that. But still, as I said previously on the news, you know, the Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that a billionaire can give $500 million to a politician, and that's free speech. That's why they can do that. So, you know, these people that are willing to spend money and doing that and support their exercising their First Amendment right to free speech and speaking out in support.”

Dickey said he will continue to try to fight the extradition of Mangione to New York and try to “get my hands on as much so-called evidence as I can and proceed to move forward in the best interest of my client.”

Dickey last spoke to Mangione on Tuesday and plans to speak with him again “very soon.”
