Antonio Salgado was charged with four felony counts of animal cruelty. Police received a call of a man carrying four kittens in a plastic bag, so they tracked him down and were able to recover the family pets, which survived, police said.
Salgado was ordered held on $15,000 bail at his arraignment Friday in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. He pleaded not guilty and was scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing July 29.
