A new clinic in Hawthorne aims to make healthcare accessible to the district’s students.
The Maxine Waters Health and Dignity Center opened to the public on Thursday. It’s the result of a $14 million State Department of Education grant and partnership between the Venice Family Clinic and Hawthorne School District.
The center seeks “to provide medical care, mental health care, and other health and wellness services to the school district’s more than 7,000 students,” according to a press release.
At the clinic, students can get physical exams, vaccinations, mental health support, health education, and ongoing care for specific conditions such as asthma or diabetes. Students are able to go to the clinic, whether they’re insured or not. The clinic will also help families in enrolling for health insurance.
The mom of a student in the district told KNX News’ Nataly Tavidan that the clinic is an “everything in one.”
“You don't have to go anywhere else,” she said. “You have time to pick up the kid. You can just drop into the clinic for a check-up if you need.”
The Maxine Waters Health and Dignity Center is located at 11838 York Avenue in Hawthorne. For more information on the center, click here.
