Clothing, Food, Community Service, Education, Athletics, Arts: Six points at the heart of this week's KNX Hero

Have you ever noticed the six points on an Orange County Sheriff's Deputy badge? For Deputy Pete Chavez, those points represent more than the law - they represent an opportunity to help his community, and he's turned opportunity into action!

Deputy Chavez is the cofounder and team leader of Six Points for Kids (SPFK) - a "deputy-driven program" out of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, created to provide front-line officers with ways of giving back to children and teens in need.

Once Six Points for Kids was adopted as an official program, it began hosting events like Shop with a Cop, School Supply Drive, and much more.

By partnering with various charities, holding fundraising events, and focusing on public outreach, Deputy Chavez and the Orange County Sheriff's Department believe SPFK initiatives leave an "immediate, identifiable, positive impression on the lives of needy children in our community."

So, what's next for Six Points for Kids? In June 2022, Deputy Chavez and his team will host a "Builders for Babies" diaper drive in Garden Grove. The goal? Build a life-sized humvee-- entirely out of boxes of diapers and wipes!

Deputy Chavez is a hometown hero in many ways -- A SoCal native, dad of three boys that helps keep our community safe. He's inspiring young people to be our future leaders. His dedication to protecting and uplifting his community makes Orange County Sheriffs Deputy Pete Chavez our KNX Hero of the Week!
