Part of Palos Verde Drive in Rancho Palos Verdes was shut down Thursday, due to a significant amount of mud on the road thanks to the first of two storms set to hit SoCal.
The closure lasted about two hours while a team of bulldozers and public works crews cleaned it up.
KNX News' Emily Valdez spoke with County Fire Captain Andrew Olvera of station 53, who said, "To close a road, it's a very large inconvenience, and we understand that, and we want to help try to get it open as soon as possible."
As for Sunday's storm, which is expected to be bigger, with predictions of further mudslides, Olvera warns, "Usually, the first rain really doesn't push down a lot of mud. It's usually the second one once the grounds are saturated... And with what we saw [Thursday], I would want people to definitely be ready and be prepared."

Captain Olvera said that where the water and mud went as a result of this first storm cell gives a good indication of where it will go when the next storm comes through.
